The Secondary School Writing Centers Association (SSWCA) is proud to announce that the inaugural issue of our journal – The Journal of Peer Tutoring in Secondary Schools (JPTSS) – is now available online for free! Under the guidance of managing editor Amber Jensen (BYU), we are overjoyed to publish the work of secondary educators and tutors and to highlight work being done in the secondary setting. Please take time to review Issue 1; we think you will be excited to see all that is being done by our members and how it intertwines with the work you are doing. A debt of gratitude to all the editors and those who worked on this issue. If you or one of your tutors are interested in submitting a manuscript to JPTSS, please review our call for papers.

SSWCA now offers three types of membership: full center membership for those who already have a staffed secondary center, individual professional membership for those educators interested in learning more about secondary peer tutoring, and individual student membership for undergrads and student teachers who have an interest in secondary peer tutoring. More details and purchasing options can be found on our website. We hope you will consider joining our vibrant and rapidly expanding community!

SSWCA’s March 2022 conference is currently planned to be in-person in Boston; this will be our first conference held beyond the Capital Area. While the majority of conference presentations will take place in-person, SSWCA recognizes that it is not feasible for many of our members to travel to Boston. In an attempt to provide more equitable access, we are going to informally kick-off the conference with a highlighted selection of virtual presentations. With a theme of “Revolutionary Partnerships,” we are looking for how writing center and peer tutoring folk partner across all borders. Our CFP is now available with proposals due November, 5, 2021. Again, we invite you to consider how your work fits into our theme and to forward this to all who may be interested in joining us in Boston. More details and conference registration will be available in the fall semester.

If you have questions about our organization, please reach out to SSWCA.
